Default Questions About My Going to 35's Strategy

Hello everyone,

Since I purchased my '07 JK 2 1/2 months ago, my plan has been to slowly procure the wheels, tires, suspension lift, and super chip to get to the goal of 35's and differentiate my JK from the mall crawlers and soccer mom's (no offense to either) that chose the JK over a mini-van. Although my thought was to take it slow so that the wife doesn't freak out on the finances front, I was able to grab 5 Rugged Ridge black satin 17X9's off ebay for far less than retail and now I'm one step closer.

So I have a few thoughts and questions on next steps:

1. 4WD/Procomp is offering free installation (through the end of Sept.) on several of their suspension kits including the 2.5" JK kit (K3099B) w/ES9000 shocks, so I could get it installed for $500 out the door. However, I'm still not ready to fund 35" tires and my question becomes - how ridiculous will the JK look with the lift on the stock Sahara 18's for a few months? Would wheel spacers at least buy me some time?

2. If there was a proper sequence to all of this madness, what would it be and am I missing anything?

3. Are there better suspension kits out there for the money installed? Anyone running this specific kit (did search, but tricky to pinpoint)

4. Should I avoid buying a used Superchip on this forum?

I will continue to do some searching tonight, but all I can think about is getting this JK to a point where I'm semi-satisfied

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Of course, much later down the road - new gears and new bumpers

My plan is:

1) New Gears - DONE (3.21 to 4.88)
2) Suspension LIFT - In my Garage waiting for install
3) 35" Tires (I already have the wheels and currently running 33's)

Once I have the cash for the tires ... I will install my lift and then drive to tire store to have tires installed.

Very nice plan and thanks for responding.

I don't know anything about that lift, but if it's what you want and it is complete with everything you need, strike a deal with them. Buy the lift and have them agree to install it at no charge when you get your tires. You will probably want to regear after the 35s and some programmer to adjust for tires and gears, so add that cost to your plan too. This Jeep thing never ends. I've added more than $12,000 in mods to my JKU and can still come up with things I "Need".

Great point about negotiating the deal to include installation. Think I might go ahead with the Superchip flashpaq to begin and then the lift next. Bottom line is that I need to research the best lift for the money that will fit 35's without issue. Thanks again for the response.

Give you an idea of what the 18" stock rim and Dueller will look like on a 2" BB. IMHO I don't like it tires look to small, but I only run this setup in the winter.

1) go with 35's first IF you are not going to be doing much off-roading.
2) Get your lift (Coil spring lift if you are considering bumpers and winch).
3) Re-gear if you have 3:73 gearing...if not and have 3:21's then I would put this up on the list.

For $500 minus installation I got the rough country 3.5 inch lift. comes with front lower control arms. Kept the stock steel 16 inch rims, added 1.5 in spidertrax spacers and 315/75/16 mickey thompson baja mtz. I had the lift on for a week without my mikey's and although it looked a little weird it still looked better than stock. Everyone knows that when your riding around with a lift and no tires to match your just saving for tires.

Spent $1800 for the whole thing but I did install the lift myself.
