Default My turn to build Tube doors...well almost..lol

Hi guys...thought I would throw an idea at ya. I am kicking around the idea of building Tube Doors for my JK and thanks to a tip from RockyTX I think I can get this HF TB bending tubing like the more expensive models.

Would you like to see me take a crack at it?

Opps...I fat fingered the word Tube in the heading..lol

Update: whichever moderator fixed my fat fingered spelling mistake in the title...I appreciate it!

whats the HF bending tubing stuff you speak of?

I have been playing with the same idea since i got the welder up and running. Everything you have made so far has turned out really nice. I would love to see your take on doors too.

By all means I love when people build stuff from scratch.

Check out my rock rails build. In that thread there is a link posted by RockyTX with some very good suggestions on how to get the Harbor Freight Pipe Bender to bend without kinking tubing. Good stuff!

i have the same bender
and i tried the filling it with sand trick but it still kinked up, just not as much.

the best solution for me was using thicker walled tubing
so far i have great results with 3/16 wall tubing but anything thinner gets globbed some way or another

Cool..I will try that out. I am also going to make the boots and the top piece to hold the tubing in the die. The guys that did that had some great looking bends with it without using the sand trick. I also found a writeup that showed how to make a die for the squre tubing that I want to make.

Hey man..ya, I wanted something that people could recognize my threads easily so I thought I would use "My turn"..lol. Chessy, I know.

I made the little piece clamp piece that goes ontop of the die and it worked pretty good. i made 90 degree bend in 1" tubing .125 wall without sand and it worked suprisingly well. Here is a pic of what I did:

Now keep in mind this bend is without sand, done very fast, and the top boot is a little loose. I am pretty sure I can get the bend much much better, expecially once I make the other pieces.
