Default My new 2011 Sahara Unlimited Lift/Tire advice

HI all, I'm picking up a brand new fully loaded 2011 Sahara Unlimited this Friday.

I've decided to have the dealership install a Mopar lift at that time so that 1) my dealer continues to honor the warranty after the lift and 2) so that i can roll the cost of the lift into the cost of my vehicle. The dealership agreed the dealer-installed lift wont effect my warranty.. and it's in writing.

They've given me four mopar lift choices:
- 2"
- 2" with bilstein shocks
- 4"
- 4" with bilstein shocks

I plan to purchase new wheels and tires.. most likely mickey thompson 35" baha ATZ. At some point i will upgrade the gearing from stock sahara but it wont happen for a while.

The lift and tires are for looks. I dont plan to hit the trails anytime soon but would like to at some point down the road.

So heres my questions:

- what will the bilstein shocks give me besides a lighter wallet?
- if i decide on the 4" lift with 35" tires do i need to be concerned about any of the mechanicals (axel, drive train etc..)?
- should i just go with a 2" lift to avoid any mechanical issues.. ie. stresses.

Thanks in advance.. i love the forum and the wealth of information this community brings to the table.

Thanks
John

Is it a auto or manual? If it's an auto I would do the 2" with shocks unless you feel like dropping some extra cash for a new driveshaft later on. You should be Able to fit 35s, but then again I'm no expert. My 35s work with my OME 2" lift without problems.

I don't know much about the mopar lifts, but personally I would look for a different brand.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Flobra, it's a manual tranny My concern is mostly related to adding additional stress to the rest of the vehicle if i go the 4" lift with 35" tires. This isnt a rubicon with the beefed up axle and other parts.

This is a tough one, 2" seems like not enough and 4" is probably more than you want. You will probably be able to fit 35s with the 2", but my guess is at full flex you will rub. Also you will need to consider new wheels or wheel spacers as 35s on stock will rub on the inside of the tire. I went 2.5" Teraflex as this way I do not need to mess with drive shafts. research on here tells me anything 3" and up should look at those, even though 4" seems more realistic. So a lot of it depends on what you want to do. but if you go with the 4" do some research as you will be spending money on Drive shafts, and control arms.

Edit: forgot to add.. the fact that they will honor the warranty is really nice. Its a big trade off as I would prefer a 2.5" or 3" from another brand.. once again, whats more important ? How hard will you wheel? what can you afford? its all trade-offs.. good luck.

wanted to follow up with the results of my QA with you guys. Had a Mopar 4" lift installed by the dealer two weeks back (kit was two months on back order). I had the lift rolled into the cost of the jeep. Three days for the install (xtra day for heated seat install). Yesterday i had the local tire shop mate my new black rock 9" wheels with Nitto Trail grappler 35x12.5 tires. Loving the look and the ride!

Thanks everyone for you assistance... next up... re-gear. Those 35"s took some power away... 6th gear is pretty much useless.
