Default wider wheels and driving

What kind of effect does having a wider stance create on driving? I mean, with wider wheels with more backspace or wheel spacers. No lift though. And only slightly bigger tires then stock Rubi. I have been told the wider offset makes a more numb feel to the steering wheel and squirrely.

I would think that the squirlly feel would depend a lot on the tread design and overall width of the tire. I have an 07 unlimited, with Dick Cepek FC ii 12.50 x 33 x 17 radials with DC-1 9 inch wheels, 2 inch over coil spacer lift and no wheel spacers. I think that the stability is actually better than the original Dueler tires that were on the vehicle with the exception that with the wider tire there seems to be a more severe pull when one side or the other hits standing water on the road at higher speeds (50-65).
Hope this helps you.

If you were only to widen your rear track, without widening the front, it would definitely get squirrely. You will also get better grip out of the corners because of greater leverage.

I went from stock, to tires protruding beyond the flares about 2 inches, and it's a bit squirelly. Im not sure if it's from the more aggressive tires, the stance, or the fact that I'm no longer driving on horribly toed in tires. I imagine wide = stable though.

went from stock to wide stance and wide tires. The wide tires want to follow the groves in the road more, and the wide stance means I don't really fit into those groves anymore. I wouldn't say squirrley, but I have to pay more attention to the road and steer more than before.

Not that big of a deal

I'm running some 33" Bridgstone Revos w/ a 4.5" bs wheel. Although not a lot different, I feel it's a bit more stable. Better tires and a little wider stance will do that. A lot has to do with how much air you run as well as to how it will react to the road.

Wider is better.

The only down side I can think of is premature ball joint failure. But thats on the extream side. You would probably never have an issue.

My jeep has 3.7 bs on a 10'' wheel and no problems.
