Default Painting your AXLES & CHASSIS

Aside from having paint flake off my differential covers and the actual axle housing, I have noticed quite a few members on here who have welded brackets and braces onto their axles and/or chassis, and have painted over them to match just about perfectly with the OEM color of their axles and/or chassis.

Question:

What paint are you using to match? What's the process you are taking to have the paint stick and not flake off?

I used 3m Rubberized under coating, I just pressure washed it the day before. Sticks really good. I just re-did my innner fenderwells(no liners on rear) I did over a year ago and went ahead and did the axles and other components/frame.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll definitely look into that. If you can and don't mind, post a pick of your axles and/or frame so I can get a look?

Been painted about a month now, pressure washed off at least 3 times since then.

I use the 3m professional grade rubberized( black and orange can). I used 4 cans for what I do, so if you get a case, you should be good.

Wondering what prep you need to do first? Painting this stuff is something I should have done the day I drove it off the lot when everything was fresh and unblemished. Two years on all the unpainted cast stuff (driveshafts, u-joints, tie rods, steering knuckles, steering box, etc) are coated in a layer of orange rust.

Obviously a wire brush to start, but then a coat of rust-inhibiting zinc unercoat first?
