Default 15" rims 8" or 10" wide??

Hello all! I'm a newbie here. I've been studying all your forums for months now. I'm putting 33" GoodYear Duratrac's on my 07 Unlimited. I've decided to go with 15"ers. However I'm struggling with whether I'm better off with 8 or 10 inch wheels. And if this will effect backspacing? I'm looking at ProComp Rock Crawler Series 98. Only a few dollars difference. They both have 3.75" backspacing. But what effect's will the width difference have on performance, appearance, that kinda thing?

Sorry if this is repeated stuff, but I searched my ass off and couldn't find anything on the specific differences between the widths.

i got this when i searched, but basically all you're gunna get is that the 8" is usually preferred. it will hold a bead better while running lower pressures and it gives a little more rubber between your wheel and the rocks. the wider wheel will give a wider look on the jeep and will allow you to run higher pressures while maintaing a good contact path. the higher pressures will relate to better mpg and increased tread life. it's all in what's more important to you

i would go with 10 wide, you may want to upgrade to 35s one day, plus your 33s are probably a 12.5 wide tire, that looks and fits best with a 10 wide, ive got pro comp 15x10s on my 07

Default Sorry to but in

Here's another guy that needs some help.
this is very close to the thread i wanted to start.

Bought my 07 used. The rims are aftermarket mopars 16x7. I wish he would have sprung for 8's then I'd be good. I want to run 285/75 but they ask for a min 7.5"-8" rim.

i hear that you can run 285/75 on stock 7" wide is this ok?? I have heard mixed opinions on this.
but then i need to consider backspacing. That part i got figured. ( there is a button right on my keyboard for that)

I also thought that a 15" wouldn't fit on a JK but I see that it can be done. Stock axels?? I didn't think 15's would clear my brakes??

15s fit fine on mine, and 285s will fit on a stock width rim, my spare is a 285 on a stock sahara wheel and it fits fine.

If you have the same backspacing a 10" wheel will stick out 2" further than an 8" wheel.

I prefer an 8 for up to 12.5" wide tires. Keeps it tucked in a bit more and I like the look of how it fits.

What width 33 are you getting?

I've decided to go with 10's. I don't do much trail riding or hard core wheeling. I do like to sling some mud, but not much where bead damage would be a big concern. I don't really care about MPGs that much, but tread life is a big plus. Thanks for all the info guys, shouldn't be long before the pics are up!

Well it turns out that 4wheelparts.com didn't have what I was looking for exactly. So while I was talking to the salesman, I ended up ugrading to ProComp 8179's in 16X10 and the GoodYear DuraTracs in 285/75R16. Turns out to be about 13" wide I think. Getting the Rough Country 3" lift put on next week. I can't freakin' wait.
