Default Actual Tire Size Surprise

I ordered Nitto Trail Grappler M/T 35x12.50R17E2 tires from tire direct which were delivered to the house today. They look awesome BUT a quick measurement of the tires found they are actually 34" x 11.5"... not exactly the 35"x12.5" i thought i was getting. I double checked the label on the tire itself which confirmed i did get what i paid for.

From other threads i've found that there can be a discrepancy between what is stated by the manufacturer and what is actual... i just didn't think it would be an inch less in both directions!! If i had wanted a 34" tire i would have ordered a 34" tire (if there is such a thing).

Does a tires dimensions change at all when actually installed onto a rim and are inflated?

Thanks for listening...
John

Once installed and inflated they might measure 34.5"...being rounded to 35" If you look at a tire on Quadratec it list the publish size and the actual size.

Shouldn't be a surprise since it's been mentioned a million times in a million threads. Tire companies use fisherman rulers not standard rulers.
