Default GY Duratrac 315/70R17 (34.4") on stock tire carrier?

Hey guys I have a question for those running 315/70R17 Duratracs. I know a 35" on the stock carrier will cause wear and tear but the GY website says these tires measure 34.4". I'm wondering if those who own these can verify this measurement and say whether they use the stock tire carrier.

I currently run 285/70R17 Duratracs which the website says is a 33. I run them at 28-30 PSI and my tires measure in at 32".

So what I'm getting at is if the 315/70R17 Duratracs are smaller than advertised, lets say 34". Would I be "safer" mounting one on the stock tire carrier? I just got a set of 5 used 315/70R17 Duratracs from a buddy but it will be a while before I can purchase a tire carrier. And just for info sake the original tread depth of the tires is 18/32 and the tires I got are at 13-14/32.

Thanks.

a 315 is essentially a 35" tire and NO tire measure up to what is listed on the sidewalls. in fact, most are considerably smaller and a lot of metric sized tires measure taller. having said all that, if the tire you're looking at really does measure 34.4", i can assure you that it is in fact taller than most 35" listed tires out there and, while you can mount it on your tailgate, it will put just as much strain on it as any other 35 out there. if you make sure that the sidewalls are pressing firmly against the rubber isolators, that will help prevent jiggling and keep things intact longer but, over time, you've got to know that the weight will start to do damage.

Thanks WOL. I was afraid I'd hear that. Well I guess I just stick with what I've got which seems to work and maybe I'll put the 35" Duratracs up for sale.

honestly, i would run them and, like i said, so long as you make sure your sidewall is pressing firmly up against the isolators, you should be okay for awhile - at least, long enough for you to save up for something more substantial to hold it.

i put the same size duratracs on my stock rear tire carrier. with daystar bumpsstops. rattled like crazy. it was on my stock wheel, using a spacer. nothing fit well. i tried a couple different setups. it always rattled. and just make me un easy all the time.

needless to say its been in the back the past couple months. awaiting my rear bumper/rear tire carrier.

if your wheel is bolted firmly against the tire carrier and the sidewall is pressing firmly up against the isolators on the tailgate, there should be no rattling.

I agree, and understand that. My issue was getting the isolators to line up correctly and have everything keep tight. It was just an issue with the isolators being too close to the inside of the wheel. It was not 100% on the tire. Only about half the isolator was on the tire on each side. I believe I was using a teraflex spacer. Im not really sure, i dont honestly remember.

Regardless, i dont think anything much larger than a stock rubicon tire. or 33, should be on there, especially off road. Personal opinion! I know many people have ran larger with and without issues.

I have been running the 315/70/17 duratracs for over 30k and love them. At first it was with stock carrier and daystar isolators that had the first "nub" cut off and had no rattles. Have since moved on to the E1 rear bumper and carrier.

I have to disagree with this.. I ran the 295/70R18 Nitto Trail Grapplers (34.6" x 11.5") with daystars on MBRP relocation bracket and within 4 months I was getting rattle from what appeared to be a broken weld in the tail gate. Is was firm against everything and it didn't help. Looking at the AEV tire carrier w/ OE bumper now..
