Default new axle, what to look for

I am going to buy a dana 44 front axle with e locker and brakes and rotors.

Is there anything I need to look for to make sure everything is good to go on the axle? I want to make sure it is all good.

Thanks.

honestly, i would recommend that you get a dynatrac pro rock 44 with arb locker instead. the factory 44 is basically a glorified dana 30 with a 44 diff.

Default Dynatrac

As long as it says Dynatrac Pro Rock 44, there is nothing to worry about

Rock rash, bent or cracked brackets, leaking seals, oil condition (pop the cover and take a look at the guts if you can. If not, pull the fill bolt and stick your finder in), any obvious bending of the housing and C's (which may be hard to do with a visual inspection), the sellers most recent alignment specs, you could even take a look at his front tires, as abnormal wear could possibly indicate an axle issue. But your best bet is to just pay a shop to do an good inspection for you.

And I'll x3 the PR44 suggestion. (Depending on the sale price, of course...)

I like my Prorock 44. Get some orange on the ends (RCVs and Reid Racing knuckles) and you've got a pretty good set up. If you had a 44 in the front sleeves and gussets would help but I wouldn't spend anything on an OEM housing 30 or 44 that needed a bunch of welding done to it.

I am getting a pretty much brand new 44 with brakes and rotors for 600 bucks
He said it has never been installed, so with such a low price, I just want to make sure something is not wrong with it.

nice find , even if its junk....you can prob scrap and part it out for what your gonna pay. E-locker alone is worth that.

If your not sure what your looking at, try and take someone who does with you. If you can't do that....just pick it up and try it out. unless it's still in the doner rig and you can actually drive it, you never can tell, there could be a hundered things wrong with it, sometimes you just have to go with your gut.
