I'm going to guess somewhere in the 12-21mpg range.

Read enough of these mpg threads and you'll see that the numbers are all over the place. Just depends on how you drive, where you live, where you drive, your local conditions, which model you have, how much added weight, the phase of the moon, etc. You might narrow down your question a bit...

I hear something like that restores it to somewhere near factory performance levels so maybe what you got factory plus or minus 2 miles mpg. That might be the best way to figure it out since you know what you got stock with your driving style, environment etc.

ok well new with 225/ 75/ 16 stockers i would get 19 to 20 average mpg. My driving is 90% highway with 50/50 flat and mountainous terrain (grapevine) in bakersfield, ca. I have 3.73 gears, and now pushing 33 hankook dynapros. my speedo hasn't been recalibrated and now it says my avg mps are pretty steady around 13. and speedo is about 5 mph slow. So what i understand is going to 4.88's should bring me back to a "Stock" feel and mpg?

Unless all your highway driving is in the 55-65 MPH range, there is no way I would go with 4.88's if I were you. In my opinion the RPM's would be too high all the time for any faster. I'm running 4.88's in my 6spd with 35's that actually measure about 34's and for highway driving I wish I went with 4.56's

Here's a example of wild MPG. I ran about 20 city/24 hwy with my 3.21s and stock 255/75/17 tires. I moved up to 33s and I am getting about 17mpg mixed driving on my uncalibrated odometer.

Will move up to 4.88 when I get 35s.

I had 35's and 4:88's on my 2009 "X" with manual, and I saw my MPH go from around 14 to 9. That was enough for me. Sold the 2009 and bought a new Rubicon and like the 17 to 19 MPH with 33's.

What configuration were you running getting 14? When I was stock with an '07 X and 4.10 gears and stock SRAs, I got around 19-20 MPG consistently on the highway (calculated, not with that unreliable MPG gauge).

If 4.88's get that kind of mileage, would it be that much of a disadvantage to going with 4.56's? I am in the process of getting ready to lift mine and run 35's but really don't want my MPG's in the toilet either since this is my daily driver. I have looked over the chart in the gearing section and it only seems to be a few RPM's less by going with 4.56's instead of 4.88's but it seems like those few less RPM's may be beneficial. I may even try to find a set of 4.10's and give those a shot first. If I could see around 15 MPG's, I could live with that but then again I know it's all in how you manage the skinny pedal and even now I rarely go over 3000 RPM's.
