IIRC, some Jeeps came from the factory with them. The JK has provisions to use them, but doesn't have them.
What gives?

On-road, you should be ok with them.

Off-road, they tend to slip. And if you decide to replace them with adj ca's, you have the added cost of getting the holes welded back up...

in order to use cam bolts, you need to cut out the tabs on your lower control arm mounts effectively making the bolt holes into rectangular slots. while this allows you to make adjustments to your caster, there is little to keep the position of your axle set at that point other than the compression of the bolts. on pavement, this is fine but, if you wheel/flex your jeep, these bolts can and will come loose and that will allow your axle to shift around - this is not a good thing. also, once you make the holes into slots, you will need to have some welding done in order to fix them.

Cheap temporary solution that in the end will cost your more in the long run vs. a good set of lower adj. control arms.

That's exactly the case we went through with our first lift and cam bolts and as WOL mentioned the round bolt in a slot slips when you off road and you can't really make the adjustments needed like you can with adjustable control arms so we ended up tack welding them in position and went with a set of Teraflex arms...do it right the first time and save yourself some trouble! My lowers arms are +1 but fixed can I adjust it with upper arms?

Why is one lower arm longer?

Yep, adjustable lowers and uppers do the same thing, just backwards. You'll be fine with adding adj uppers.

Most roads have a crown which will push you to the right. Adjusting one side slightly longer may counteract this. Haven't seen any documentation to prove this, but it sounds plausible.

I have definitely read the same about the road pulling to the right nthinuf.

And it most definitely seems plausible to counteract by increasing the length of said upper or lower control arm. I wonder if anyone has any real experience with this and wants to chime in.
