Question Rear Axle Shaft???

I got in a wreck at the end of June and havnt settled anything yet, and thank god I didnt. I went to get my rig inspected last week and the place doing it asked if I had been in a wreck recently and I said yes why and he said because your rear right axle shaft is bent 1/2''. He gave me the following estimates:
PARTS:
RT AXLE SHAFT= 452.00
AXLE ASSEMBLY= 819.00
85-140W= 12.50
LABOR:
REMOVE AND REPLACE AXLE HOUSING AND AXLE= 552.00
ALIGNMENT= 70.00

TOTAL= 1920.50

Now I am posting this asking is it worth getting it back to the way it was or should i put that money else where for more mods?? i dont know just how severe this problem is or isnt...

thanks for all your help in response!
Zach

If you are paying, check the for sale section/craigslist/ebay for used rear-ends from guys that have upgraded.

If insurance is paying, start looking at D60 replacements.

If those are stock axles, good chance your other rear one is bent too. Even if you wer hit in the rear or side, have them check your front end too. I've been down this road, stuff got f'd up on the front aswell as the rear. You really need a mech to go over it with a fine tooth comb.

I dunno how you were hit , but your trackbar and control arms were probably bent some and your driveshaft may have gotten dinged too. Check it all, if they hit you hard enough to bend your axle that much it bent other stuff too

That axle shaft is going into the pumpkin at a slight angle. it may be ok, or the extra angle may cause the r&p go self destruct. Pull the upper diff plug and stick your finger down into the oil. Any metal shavings? (changing the oil would be a better way to check, but sticking your finger in should work...)

With the axle bent up, that tire will be sitting at an angle and will probably have uneven wear.

Oh, I forgot, you need them to make sure and add the costs of bearings, seals, install kit for when they change the housing, they need to check your brake components and caliper bracket especially too.

hahah yes the D60 is looking better....

My rig was stock when the accident happened so nothing aftermarket would also be bent..Im an 18 year old kid who wheels maybe once a month, if that. yesss i agree thats pathetic but i just dont have the funds if something breaks! of course im going for more of the looks, yes pathetic again, but thats why i am asking if it is pointless to get that fixed or put it towards other goodies
