Default Rancho Oil Pan Skid

I read through a couple threads that were posted a while back on the Rancho "glue" on skidplate. It seems most everyone agreed that it seems to stay on very well with the silicone. What is everyones opinion on it being in contact with the actual pan versus other brands being mounted so no shock loads transfer to the oil pan? Is that a big worry or not? I know WOL runs this one and we all know what kind of rocks his skids encounter! Thanks!

I have been looking at an oil pan skid, and most of the Rancho owners seem very happy....but that said, I refuse to go with the Rancho - gluing on a skid just seems stupid to me. how many "hits" can it take before the silicon gives? Who knows. I just can't get the picture (video?) out of my head of my oil pan skid bouncing down the street behind me and taking out someone else.

what can i say, mines been holding up and working out just fine. had it on for about a year and a half and it's yet to fall off and go bouncing down the road. but, maybe i just do wheel hard enough. either way, there is a provision that comes with the skid that allows you to tie it up to your block... just in case.

Wayoflife is correct, there is a provision to tie it in to the block. He has done a great job of testing this skid.

Default Rancho Skid

Just my two cents... I put on the Rancho skid after reading extensively on this forum and other sites.... After cleaning the oil pan extremely well and using the whole tube of silicone glue, I would gladly offer an award to anyone that could get this skid off now! I don't do anything like WOL, and it is just insurance from the stray rocks or trail obstacles I might encounter....
By the way... I think WOL meant "maybe he just DOESN'T wheel hard enough... Have you seen his pics and vids??
I'm confident MY oil pan is safe.

a hole in the oil pan leaves one stranded! Sounds like it has done its job!

I had the same concerns when I put one on my 09, but it held up great and I don't believe I could have gotten it off if I had wanted too. I am going to put one on my 2011.

I remember a post from WOL on the same subject a while back. He said a good spotter negates the need for a lot of skids - or something like that. So here's a question to WOL - has your oil pan skid taken a few good whacks, or are your spotter's skills generally better than my spotters are? My spotters ain't bad, but my skids still show a lot of abuse.
