Default Rough Country 4" X-Series vs. TeraFlex 3" w/ Full FlexArms

Hey guys. I could really use your help with this one. I hear good and bad about both companies, and it all comes down to personal preference and price. Price isn't an issue, but unfortunately, I have minimal experience with RC, and NO experience with TeraFlex, so that's where your opinions (and pictures) can help me. I'm looking to run 35's on a 2-door 6-speed Sahara (soft top). It's my DD, and 85% of my driving will be on-road (including highway). I'm prepared to make all the necessary corrections that come along with this high of a lift (i.e. driveshafts, re-gearing, steering stabilizer, etc.) I need something that will keep my on-road manners / performance intact, but give me with the security that I can tackle some offroad nastiness, should I decide to do so. Also, between bumpers, winch, skid plates, and rocker guards, I've got about 350 lbs. of weight to think about with regards to "actual lift" versus "advertised lift."

I test-drove a two-door on 35's with this Rough Country set-up, and I was very impressed (although it had a dual steering stabilizer, which isn't included in the kit). I like the stance it gives the Jeep, but how does RC do offroad? Is it cheaper for a reason?

With regards to the TeraFlex kit, I understand I'll need the Monster front trackbar to complete the kit, but other than that, it looks pretty good. One of the main reasons I haven't pulled the trigger on this kit is because I don't know how much height I'll actually net. I always hear that TF sits "high", but what kind of height can I expect to clear with said 350 lbs. of extra weight on a soft top?

Anything you guys could tell me would be greatly appreciated. Because we're talking almost $1,000 difference in price between these kits, I figured I'd get some expert feedback. I included some pix of my current setup.

Thanks, everyone. I hope to see you out there!

With full adjustables, it could be left down to a lot of things.

These kits are alike in a few major ways, which makes it easy to understand your position on getting one or the other.

What makes you questionable on the TF besides the height??? Seems like other than that, what makes the X System appealing

Some guys bitch that it's not "Made in the USA". Neither is RC! Right on RC's shocks it says "Made In Mexico." That's not so much of an issue with me. Other guys say TF is too expensive; and why pay the extra $1,000 when RC will do the same job. In my neck of the woods, the shops push Skyjacker, RC or BDS; TeraFlex is almost unheard of around here.

TF is expensive, but for quality and all that maybe it is worth it.

With the RC a lot of the features are the same. You mentioned BDS as well, cant get around a warranty like theirs. If shooting for the kit you can get a better deal on still benefits your DD driveability, it seems like a win win no matter which kit you go for.

That is a really good looking JK too.

Thanks! I've been working hard on her, although I won't be installing the lift kit. I agree that BDS does have a pretty sweet warranty; RC also has the "Lifteime Warranty", plus the 60-day Satisfaction Guarantee, which is nice. I'm not too sure about TeraFlex's warranty. Like I said, I have NO experience with them whatsoever. However, although they're a bit more expensive, I'm a firm believer of "you get what you pay for."

This is very true. Both kits do have full adjustables though, which makes them both very similar in terms of full ride and axle confuguration. I am jealous you are getting all these new JK goodies!!!

I have the x-series 4" and am happy with it. I did add a steering stabilizer and a dropped pitman arm.

Capt Howdey, do you have any rubbing issues on the fenders when offroad? It looks a little tight in there. Still a nice looking rig though.

the only rub is in reverse at full lock, it rubs the front plastic "skid plate"...
