Default Upholstery - Hardtop interior

I have read up quite a bit about Hothead liners etc, but also trying to find out if anybody here had their hard top upholstered? I got some quotes locally and the cost of this is less than the 4 stick on panels.

What I was quoted on is to cover virtually then entire interior with 10mm forum, and cover it with automotive carpet?

Anybody else done this instead of just liners?

My hardtop was covered with suede by Cop4x4. He has done this a number of times with different materials. Check his website for pics.

Thanks, did you also first line with foam? And your comments on noise/heat reduction afterwards?

I have not even seen it yet, just pics on his Facebook page.
Was just finished and shipped. No foam used and he said it will help
with noise. Heat? Ask him.

I'll tell you what I did: I went to Lowes and bought 1/2 insulation board, which is white with a heat sheild on one side. $10. One can of Loctite Super spray bond at Joanns for $12. 3 yds of headliner material at Joanns in black, $30. I had spools of 3M velcro, so I can not price the velcro but Joanns has it as well. One bottle of Acetone to clean the top for velcro adhesion, $6. I'm telling you it looks factory, it is a hell of a lot warmer and much quieter. I'll take a picture tonight. Has never come loose.

With that said, Hotheads makes great headliners and a buddy has them. They have great customer service as well and is an active member on this forum. I just chose to do it myself.

Good luck.

I have been thinking about doing the same but i am waiting to see if someone has experienced with it in the summer. I am afraid in the summer the adhesive from the velcro will soften up and come loose. Any thoughts?

I would be really surprised if it did. Any velcro that is subjected to heat and cold can come loose over time, but cleaning the surface really well with Acetone ensures it will adhere as well as it can. Adhesive like 1300L from 3M combined with velcro may last longer, but fumes would be forever...I will take a picture tonight. Plus, you can pick from 5 colors for the headliner if you don't like black.

Hotheads is looking into a permanant install for theirs. Good idea, but I'd like to be able to change one out if it got trashed.
