Default A Jeep and A Floor Jack

I would like to get a consensus on how everyone is using a floor jack under the front axel. Obviously you cannot use the pumpkin since it is over to one side. Are you lifting directly on the axel, putting a block of wood between the jack and axel housing and if you are, are you securing the wood to the jack? Pictures would be great!

I'll jack straight from the housing. I usually put my jack as close to the control arms as possible, and then I put my jack stands (the ones for my axle at least) in the factory jack location (located in the notch with the control arm).

Hope that helps

just jack one side up at a time. you can safely jack from the pumpkin to get the driver side up and you can use the bottom of your control arm mount or even the axle tube to get the passenger side up. use a jack stand to help hold up the side that does not have the jack in place.

I just use a 2x4 (about 4-6 inches long) between the jack and the axle as close to center as possible. Once up in the air I put stands under it. Easiest way.

EDDIE....!!!! I'm shocked. This is not like you; and perhaps it's a type-o . Use a jack stand on BOTH sides; 'cause jacks can fail at any time!

I have a large floor jack that will lift my JK on 35s from the cross member skid right below the T case. I then have a huge a@!$ pair of jack stands that lift to 28" that I place under the frame behind the front tires when doing front end work.

These allow me to remove the tires and fully lower the front axle to the ground.

If you are jacking up one side at a time, it's kind of tough to have a jack stand under both sides simultaneously.

I had a similar reaction as JINGLES. WOLs post could be interpreted as raise one side, install jack stand, raise other side and go to work. "use a jack stand to help hold up the side that does not have the jack in place."

My first response was "Do not EVER work on a vehicle with only a jack under it." Use jack stand(s) or slide a tire under the frame.

Dont want to drift to far off topic or hy-jack(eh eh ) the thread, but what floor jacks does everyone like using? Max lift height recomended? etc? Harbor Freight can have some good deals but i hear quaility can be hit or miss depending on the tool purchased. Comments?
