Default Ripp Gen2 Supercharger Symptoms, any help?

Ripp Tech tell me I am the only one; so I thought I would check if anyone else has these problems.

I have a 6spd and have install the gen2, gen 2, gen II super charger. (for the search strings)

On the highway the Jeep tends to surge on mild inclines, or mild head winds. The power is really smooth while accelerating but holding it constant is a different story. The problem is worsened if I use the cruise control for some reason.

Ripps solution is to increase the throttle boost (sensitivity), however when I do that the throttle response become erratic and the Jeep is un-drivable.

Has anyone else with this system seen either the throttle boost problem or the mild load surging problem?

Yes mind did the exact same thing yours is doing. It is right between vaccum and boost in the 2 to 3k rpm range on the highway. It is a certain load on the engine (25-32% throttle position) and it happens in overdrive or third. If you watch the maifold pressure it is going between -3-4" hg to .1-.3 psi positive. The surge is the engine reacting to the changing pressures. It is throwing no codes.

I have almost gotten rid of it. Check for vacuum leaks. I found the throttle body gasket to be distorted and flattened on one side. I am still trying to check for more leaks. I still want to check the egr and pcv valves to make sure they are working correctly.

I also tightened down my bypass down to the maximum that Vortech says. About 1/8" of the bolt showing above the lock nut. Going the other way made it much worse. Even the 2-3 threads makes it worse. Don't know if part of the problem is a faulty bypass valve that is dumping boost at too low a signal.

It seems that the combination of the two really improved my situation. I am still trying to get the last bit of it gone but it is substantialy better with that.

I also increased the sensitivity of the throttle to positive 15. I tried many diferent settings from positve to negative. Negative seemed to make it worse.

I thought maybe the torque convertor was locking and unlocking but seeing as yours is a manual I can rule that out.

Hope this helps and let me know if you find anything else. Unfortunately I have been too busy to rally check it all. My is fine to drive and I have figured out how to avoid much of the surging.

Thanks,

Mike

Blockrockin,

Did you change out the bypass valve or use the original one? If you kept the original that can in the gen I kit it should help me to eliminate it as a possible problem and I will concentrate on the vaccum lines.

Thanks,

Mike

hey Mike... i kept the original bypass valve.. i just added their upgrade kit... innercooler .. injectors.. removed the meth.. predator programer.. so im not sure what did the trick.. i would guess somewhere in the vaccum line .

Thanks a ton!!! I can concentrate on the vaccum system then. With 42 K on the odometer when I did, it something is bound to be leaking........ Now just need to find it.

Ripp suggested the vacuum lines as well, kinda a hard one to nail down. I might have to take to a shop to make sure I do not have a vacuum leak.

I like the idea of tightening up the bov, were did you find the vortec specs for the 1/8" max.

On their website. The throttle body gasket made a big difference. Did you intall yourself or did someone else? Check the torque on the intake bolts and the throttle body first.

I really think the bypass valve is masking the underlying problem of a vacuum leak somewhere. I am really concentrating on finding the cause of it to cure it.

Hey - we hung out at the Diablo booth this weekend at a trade show.... they were kind enough to mention there is a fix for slow to return 6spd's and slight idle surge... apparently all 6spd mopar cars had it - they found the inherit issue while reverse engineering the 2011/12 ECU - Go figure - we thought it was us... sorry guys next tool update will correct this... No word on the update - give us some time to catch up tot he killer marketing weekend and we will follow up...
