Default Smitty Built XRC Rear Bumper- Official Bumper Latch Fix (Drum Roll Please!!!)

Sorry if this is a re-thread but I'm pretty sure its not...

If you are clicking on this then you already know what I'm about to say. So everyone do Smittybuilt a favor and don't flood their lines today with requests and pay the few dollars to get the fix .

So thank you Smittybuilt and your awesome customer service. Keep in mind people this is coming from someone who's girlfriend hit a parked car with the carrier after she didn't 'secure' the latch

Cheers

Does it do anything to prevent the tire carrier opening while driving? It looks like it is just a guide when the tire carrier is swinging closed or open.

Its not a guide its a new piece, see the first pic.

Well Ive been offroading a few times now after I put the fix, latch didn't even move and I have the old school 2008 latch. So no while it doesn't lock the carrier, the carrier no longer rattles and the latch doesn't move while offroad, it adds the much needed 'leveling' and pressure to keep it latched.

Just got off the phone with Ray at Smitty. He is sending it out today and says I should have it tomorrow. I will let you know how it works out.

So are they actually charging for this part or shipping free to people that already bought the bumper?

It looks like it just compresses the handle assembly so that the handle is tighter and has more resistance. I accomplished pretty much the same thing by adding an extra little rubber grommet that I found at home depot, and haven't had any issues with it since.

If they're sending these out for free, I'd add it to mine, but I don't think I'd pay anything for it.
