I have heard it will cause problems on the tailgate rivets popping due to too much weight, depending how and where you drive. Your best bet would be to get a rear tire carrier. The price ranges vary from$350-800+

I've got a 35 on the stock carrier. I'm starting a custom rear soon but haven't had any issue yet. Just don't like it swing open freely when loading the rear.

Where can you buy one for $350. I can't seem to find anything at that price.

Something tells me that way more than getting a tire carrier

I bent the hell out of my back gate with a 35 BFG it was on the stock tire carrier for just about three weeks when I noticed the kinks in the gate, everyone told me it would be fine and I had also seen a couple of jeeps with them no problems. Go figure mine would be the one to bend up right at the hinges.
So I went out and bought a tire carrier.

I went with the OR-Fab and so far I like it. My 34" spare was ~96lbs. I didn't have any gate problems yet but I also didn't want any, and deal on the carrier was too good to pass up.

I had a 33 on my tailgate and it was causing damage, mind you I spend alot of time offroad in my jeep, for a mostly street driver it may be good for awhile..
