Default Performance Chip for Jeep

I am considering having a performance chip installed. I understand there are a couple of different versions. Any suggestions? Is it worth using premium fuel? I am also planning to install headers and a cat-back system.

Where is the best place to purchase a chip? I'm not familiar with the best chip makers. I see a Jet stage II chip was recommended. What is the price?

How's the heat with the headers? I read somewhere that another member melted the bottom of his battery box.

I did and I had to make a heat sheild to protect what was left of it. Gibson is now going to include a heat sheilds in the kit.

Are most going with the stageII chip? I know this requires 91 octane. Is there are a noticeable difference between stage 1 and stage II?

u need some extras if u go with the stage 2 whereas if u dont have a new intake and cat back exhaust ect. you go with the stage 1. by the way, the new headers havent melted my battery....yet

I'm not buying the 91 octane BS. There is no reason to run higher octane unless you are running substantially higher compression, and you are not unless you increase the stroke or add forced induction. Octane increases the fuels resistance to pre-detonation (ie. combusting on the compression stroke due to increased heat from higher pressure). A high octane fuel does NOT provide more power or a cleaner burn. Save your money and just run 87. I have used nothing but 87 in all of my vehicles and sportbikes without ANY issues what so ever.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason for the octane increase is due to the timing being changed. It avoids detonation by using higher octane fuel.
