Default Evap skid paint?

I got my benchmark evap skid, finally. It's just bare metal so I'm assuming it would be a good idea to hit it with some paint or line-x. I'm fairly new to painting metal. I'm assuming a need to sand it before hand but with what grit and is there different metal sand paper? I dunno do I never need to paint it at all? Whatya think

Edit: ha! I spelled skid wrong. Stupid phone.

I just cleaned mine up and hit it with some epoxy primer and then put a couple of coats of black on it and it has worked out o.k. I have no doubt I will have to touch it up from time to time, but would not want to put it in without painting or some type of protection to stop the rust.

No wonder he dropped the price. I got mine a year and half ago for about $100, I think. However it came painted or powder coated.

I'm currently painting mine with duplicolor bedliner. I hit it first with a brush to clean it up and the bedliner is taking just fine.
