Default Dynamat Xtreme My Doors

After helping my neighbor install some Dynamat Xtreme, he gave me the leftover (about 15 square feet). I'd like to install it in my doors to kill road noise. The doors have electric windows/locks so I don't want to get anything in the way of the motor or any other components. Has anyone here done this?

Doors arn't really where your noise is coming from, on your floor boards probably the most bang for the buck if you only have 15 feet.

Agreed but it didn't make sense to Dynamat the floor when I take the carpet out in the summertime and eventually want to LineX the interior.

Plus, I am not sure how Dynamat would stand up to water/mud and whether moisture could get trapped between and rust the floorboards.

Yea I see where your coming from I had the same Issues/thoughts when I tried to quiet up my jeep a few years ago, and Linex (I did Rhino) didn't really help me with sound much either as a lot of noise comes in through the thin hard top (also have that custom insulated there I did a write up on it) although it does help with clean up/spray down. I even have my rear door filled with insulation (be carefull here the vent on the rear door is to avoid inside pressure when you close a door with the hardtop on, its possible to pop a rear window out if you dont vent correctly)

And now with a CAI and Gibson exhaust its just a loud beast anyway, I gave up on trying to make it quiet... If you find nifty places to put yours that works well let me know, I thought about 'under' the fender next to the body of the jeep.

Dan, can you post the link to your write-up?

I'll get one of my doors off this weekend and post some pictures if a Dynamat install looks like space won't be an issue.

I was actually looking at Ziebart for all the undercarriage stuff they have but the closest one is about 70 miles from here and doesn't seem to have very good feedback. Before moving to Miami, I had Ziebart rustproofing on a Jeep that lasted forever. My cousin has had their rustproofing/soundproofing put on several of his trucks and swears by them. The difference with and without soundproofing on an F-150 is really noticeable.

If I can find a way to cut down the noise with the hardtop on and the carpet out I'll do it. It's already in the 80's here and the carpet is already calling for me to take it out and leave it in the garage.

Funny you should ask... I just posted it for sale since I haven't used the hard top since I got it:

The way I did it with 1/2 inch insulation is way better than "hothead" head liners, they really only help with radiant heat, not sound.

It looks pretty rugged. I was planning on painting the inside of the hard top and ordering a Soundcoat kit from Northridge. One of my buddies picked up a kit last year and it really made a difference with the noise and with the summer heat. I have never seen the Hothead product so I can't compare.

Man, being in SoCal this time of year must be pretty awesome with all the places to go wheeling there.

I just upgraded to 37" Toyo's in January. I could never make that whine go away and don't want to.

I just want to kill some more ambient noise, making it easier to use the UCONNECT during the work week with the hardtop on and windows up. My bosses don't care where I'm at as long as the work gets done and it doesn't sound like I'm driving.

I've reduced the noise level some already and it was pretty easy.
