Default Drive shafts on 2dr

A friend of mine that owns a custom jeep shop told me I shouldn't lift my car more than 2.5" without new driveshafts. Is this true? And what would my limit be after getting new drive shafts and are there any other benefits?

well you shouldn't be lifting your "Car." Only jeeps/trucks need to be lifted!

Just messin! But new driveshafts are a must if you exceed 3" on a 2 door auto.

Poor kitty. Wonder why he wants to lift his car and keep a stock height jeep?

Open the faq's. There are several sections that talk about driveshafts.

I have been told that even with a 2.5 lift you will tear the boot on the front drive shaft and it will fail sooner or later.

The new shafts have a smaller diameter so it will not hit the transmission.

FYI this is only true of Auto’s....6 speed manuals do not have the issue.

haha! I was that guy once... But jackson, If you have an auto, I would advise you to get new driveshafts. You said you were going with a RK long arm lift right? Well if it will be more than 3" I would spend the extra $400-$500 on a new driveshaft. You may even need a rear one..

I drive a manual and I'll probably go with the 3.5 long arm. So are you saying I only need to get a new front drive shaft and not rear?

My understanding is becouse of the manual you are OK on the front but will need to deal with the rear sooner or later
