Default Single vs. Dual Steering Dampener/35" Tires (Need Help!)

First off, I am looking at getting 35" tires. I have a lift and everything so it'll be fine, but what I am trying to find out is what is the tire size that I need to get for stock wheels? I have the 16" not the 17" (So what is the depth needed?)

Second thing is that I have heard that the steering dampener needs to be changed out with bigger tires, but what is the difference between a Single and Dual? Why would one choose one over the other?

THANKS!

I can't really help you with your first question. But as for the stabilizer, all you need us a single. I have a duel on mine only because I like the way it looks. Do a search and you will find that this has been explained many times.

Consider getting aftermarket wheels with 8-9inch width for the 35"s and correct backspacing. Otherwise your gonna rub with or without a lift. You can get taller vs wider tires if neccessary.
You only need 1 stabilizer, it only smooths out the steering through bumps.

I put 35" tires on my jeep, without a new stabilizer and every time I was on a hill my steering wheel would do the shimmy; so I got the single skyjacker stabilizer and all is fine. The dual does look cool, but not needed for 35's.

Okay awesome -
What I figured out now is that my stock tires are 255/75R17 - If I want to go 35"s on that same rim, what size do I need?

315/70/17 or 305/75/17

Check some of the post for "pics with 35"s on stock"

GON - Thanks!

315/70/17 or 305/75/17: How do you figure that? Just curious!

How is it that 315 and 305 both mean 35" and same with the 70 or 75?

tire sizes are an equation - height into width ect.... there is an online calculator you can use that will give you overall height in inches.

note-different tire brands will yeild different overall heights even if they have the same numbers.

Right, okay cool - so, 315 and 305 are the width and 12.01" vs 12.4" (but both are fine)? And it doesnt matter changing from 70 or 75? Either or will fit?

well, you need to look at what tires are available in those sizes. most will be 11.5 to 12.5" wide. With stock 7" wide rims I would go for a thinner tire to prevent it from popping off the rim when you air down.
