3.73 gears with 35" tires, my review and opinions.
I thought I'd post a report with my 3.73 since I've had my '08 for a few months. With the stock 32's I got just over 400 miles on my first tank with probably 25/75% city/highway driving. Of course I was kleeping it at or below 60 since it was the first tank. Now, even with 35's it does fine up to 65 on flat ground but above this or add in hills and I have to turn off OD at times. Around town with 35's is totally fine which is why I think I'll keep these gears for now. My situation is unique since I live in a Mexican resort town most of the year but the only time I could use taller gears is when we head back to the States once a year which is about 1000 each way. I just set the cruise at 65 (which happens to be the max speed limit in mexico) and it was ok. If I drove a lot of road trips I could see how it would be nice to be able to do 70-75. For my purpose I think I'm fine but may bump up to 4.54 someday. I definitely can't ever imagine needing 5.13 for my situation. I think mpg went down about 3 mpg with the bigger tires and I think I could do better on the highway with 4.54's. For those like me who were thinking about buying a 2007 to get the 4.10 I'd say dont worry about it as I doubt there is a big difference. If you're like me, you'll be ok with the 3.73. If not, you wouldn't be happy with the 4.10s anyway.
one fator that plays a big role and that is stick vs automatic. 3.73 is to high of gearing from the start not to mention with 35s. only 2 ways you could be happy with those gears is 1. youve never drove a jeep set up the right way or 2. your in denial. do yor jeep and yourself a favor, gear it!

410's and 35's are just okay. Not sure I would want it any worse(373). If it were the only thing I wanted/needed I wouldn't hesitate to change them. So many other things on the list.
Thanks for the report though. I know last year guys were going with 321's and 33's and were just okay with it. 373 and 35's probably feels the same.

Sorry to post a newbie question but could someone explain what you guys are discussing. I just ordered an unlimited x manual and chose the 3.73. I would eventually like to put a 2' lift on and add some larger tires. Did I make the right decision going from 3.21 to 3.73? If so or not what is affected. Just wondering since some of you guys are praising 3.73 and others are praising 4.10. Thanks for the info.
P.S. -This is the first of many newbie questions to come so I would appreciate everyone's knowledge and patience.

You did the right thing, the numericly larger the number of ger the better it will drive w/ larger tires. For instnace I went from 32's and 4.10's to 35's w/ 5.13's and love it. Welcome, keep the questions coming!

These tables are not accurate for the automatics. Automatic rpm's will actually be higher. That is also why he can tolerate the 3.73's and 35's, his automatic helps compensate better than a manual would.
