Default Dana 44 fluid with ARB diff covers..how much?

Good day my fellow Jeepers,

I read on WOL's write up, which included the following capacities:

2.375 quarts - Rear

1.35 quarts – Front

Are the above listed fluid capacities for both the Dana 44 front and rear differentials? Based on my initial impression, there seems to be a big difference in fluid levels in respect to the front vs the rear differential. I wanted to be sure, as it could be a costly mistake.

If you do end up with too much in it the excess will come out of the breather tube.

Capacity actually lowers with that particular cover, correct???

I just changed my rear diff fluid and I have ARB cover and locker. I put in 2.5 quarts. Diff hasnt puked so i think it was good amount. I rotated my pinion up for new DS so I wanted to put a little extra bacause of that.

Havent done the front yet. I just changed fluid after regear, installer told me to change back at 500 and front at 1000 miles since the front doesnt get as much use. I have a dana 30 up front, I have no ide how much to put in for that

Thanks for the reply, I have a 44 up front and wanted to get the fluid changed but dont want to put too little or make a mess with too much

When you do the front, let me know how much u put in and if u have problems.

Front takes less because there is no gear oil running into the axle tubes to lubricate bearings at the far end of the axle in the front. You have a u-joint and a unit bearing/hub. The rear lubes the bearings at the rear axle flange. The front bearings/seals are at the pumpkin.

That makes perfect sense!

I used the amount of oil from the writeup, no noise... seems just fine.
