A Little More Power
I put on a Magnaflow muffler about five tanks ago and put on a Banks intake today on my 2011 JK Sahara Unlimited. I have $150 in the exhaust and $200 in the intake. I will say that it is well worth it. Now it did not double the power or anything, but you can feel the difference.
The magnaflow made little difference. Throttle response was the same, but the motor ran a little stronger in the high end. The motor never really liked running 80+, but with the exhaust opened up it did pretty well. The need to down shift at highway speed was not as bad too.
Now, today when I put on the Banks intake that made a big difference. The throttle response is much better. You can feel the power come on a little earlier, but only by a few hundred rpm’s. It is stronger throughout the low end, but not like the high end. Get into the 3500 to 4000 range and the motor really produces a lot more power. I was actually able to get it to bark the tires shifting to second with a full tank of gas. I will say that the sound when your foot is in it is much better too. The exhaust noted is deeper and better too.
The mileage has dropped over the five tanks with the magnaflow. It was getting mid to high 17 mpg. With the magnaflow only I am getting 16.5 mpg across the board. I really think that this is to me having my foot in it all the time now. I run it 80+ now everywhere when in the past I would not. I also accelerate it much faster now, because it does not feel like it is as chocked up.
I have to put on a lot of miles the next week or two for work so I will be able to find out what the mileage is going to do soon. Even if it does not come back (or drops), I really like the added power. As soon as the 2011 programmers come out I will be adding that as well.
