Default ARB bumper install question

I am going to install my new front bumper today. I was reading through he instructions and saw the explanation of the crush can installation/extensions. Is this really needed? I was wondering how many of you skipped this step? It requires you to cut the crush cans out of your original bumper and mount them under the new bumper with extensions provided in the kit. What do they do anyway?

You don't need them, but I did it when I installed mine. If you have a cutting wheel, then its actually pretty easy and doesn't take too much time to do. My understanding is that they provide a crumple zone, so if you were to hit something they just crush and absorb the impact. Otherwise the impact would be transmitted to the frame and might result in airbag deployment even with a small hit.

I didn't put mine on. I am only worried that my insurance company might find out if I have an accident. As far as safety, I don't think omitting the crush cans has any bearing other than they lessen the initial impact, but that's only with a direct frontal accident such as rear-ending someone.

Didn't install mine either. What's really fun is wiring the indicator lights, the bumper install itself was a breeze.

I just put the bumpers on. I haven't tackled the wiring yet. Any advise?

I don't remember the specifics, but I know the colours of the wires in the directions didn't match those on my Jeep. It wasn't anything we couldn't figure out with a multi-meter though.

I ran out of time when I was hooking them up, thought I had everything wired correctly but no lights. The directions are for crap though and the colors of the wires don't match even the wires on their indicators much less the ones on the jeep.

Of course when I went to grab the multi meter, the batteries in it were dead, Doh!

The bumper is awesome though, get compliments on it constantly.

There are only 2 wires coming out of the lights, usually meaning single filament. That would make me think that the lights will either need to be signal lights OR running lights but not both, correct?
