Default Kn dropin filter v cold air intake

First off I know we don't buy jeeps for the fuel economy...that being said I've got an 07 jk unlimited 6sp, with 35's on a 4" lift. I already have a programmer but still have factory gears. I'm looking to see what's the most economical either a dropin k&n filter or cold air intake for added gas mileage. On my fill up this morning I was getting 16.49 mpg. Any experiences are appreciated.

I did not notice any particular mileage gain with the K&N drop in. I am considering a snorkel to get CAI without the hydrolock danger.

I am going to install the K&N drop in when it is due, as I have had CAI's on my past JK and was not impressed at all. For the cost, I did not see any MPG improvement, and the only thing I did experience was more noise. I would either go with a full snorkel system in the future or just use the drop in.

I just put the drop in k&n in this past weekend. Will calculate mileage after I burn through this tank and report back. So fat its about 17mph and that's been a solid 50/50 highway to city.

You won'y really notice a difference with drop in because of how restrictive most stock intakes are. Regardless, switching to a high flow filter (K&N, AFE, etc.) is a great investment.

If you have the money, go straight to a CAI or snorkel. Volant has a pretty slick CAI/Snorkel combo (mfg #37738).

You wont really notice a difference with the CAI either.

I know the CAI sounds better than stock. But is there any sound difference from the k&n drop in filter?

x2 we've seen improvements in other vehicles but not so much in the jeep just seat of the pants improvements.

However, having said that we never took great mpg measurements before doing the k&n drop in. Now we are running a cold air intake and really it's slightly better seat of the pants but we installed a Superchip at the same time so the slight improvement can't be pointed to the cai alone and the mpg is slightly better as well...again can't say if it's the combination of things or the cai.

The problem is a lot of people (like me) don't take a very scientific approach to rule out other influences.

I will echo some of the things already stated...in my TJ I saw a 1-3mpg difference with a CAI and TBS(throttle body spacer). in my JK I may have only noticed 1-2 and with both a good "seat of the pants" increase. Now, being in dusty sandy El Paso I put on a pre-filter and noticed a difference for the worse, by 1-2 mpg. It was bad. I have taken it off and will only use it on the trail now. I run the AEM dry filter and have to admit I do like the put-it-in-the-bucket cleaning method.
