Default How little backspacing is too little?

got 4.5" BS on my wheels now and I rub my drivers side LCA on a full left turn. Pretty sure I don't want to go down to only 3" BS for fear of knuckle stress.

I'm thinking the outer knuckles, the gussets I have seen are only for the inner C's. Maybe that is where the extra strength of the Reid knuckles come in?

Bring in the steer stops
Re-center the axle
Thin 'sandwich' spacers aren't recommended, but are an option
Spidertrax style spacers
New rims
New lower arms that are bent in to give more clearance
Smaller tires

Are the Rusty's LCA's quite a bit thicker than stock?

I'm running 12.5" tires (granted the contact patch is really only about 11") on wheels with 5.25" bs and don't rub at all.

So, will my 17x9 rub with 1.25" spider spacers.... I believe my BS is 4.5" right now, so I'll be at 3.25" BS..... Thanx

I'll look at the steering stops.

got the ATB so the axle is already centered

I've never read it was a good idea to sue those little sandwich spacers, I don't plan to.

My only concerns with the spidertrax style is I can't find any thinner than 1.25 and I really think 0.5-0.75 would be enough. I don't mind going out farther, from a looks point of view, but I am concerned about strength.

tires and rims only got 12k on them, they aren't changing until they are worn out

LCA's are big beefy and have the bend.

And you are only rubbing on the drivers side?

An extra washer on the steer stops would probably fix you up just fine.

Between spacers and new rims, I would choose new rims. A 3" BS is just way too far out unless you actually need it to run 40+ inch tires.

Yes, only on the drivers side. Is this significant?

I imagine I would have to do the washers on each side?

hmm, 40's, yeah, maybe that is what I need to do, you know, to stop the rubbing.
