Default How much for a Dana 30 complete front axle replacement?

My repair guy is telling me that I need a new front axle on my 2008 unlimited X and I con't seem to find a new or used one on the internet. I see 44's all over but no 30's. Any idea about how much I should expect to pay for a new or used one. Heck, does anybody here have one to sell?

You will find some forsale every once in a while. Usually modified though.

What exactly happened to it?

Why not put used 44 in the front? If the 30 needs replaced, then I would upgrade.

Not sure what happened, its my kids. He got stuck last year, broke a u-joint and the dealer wanted $5500 to replace the entire front axle because my kid drove it home and apparently bent the housing. My repair guy said it only needed a new axle shaft, ball joints, and and some spider gears. He fixed it for $1500. Fast forward 6 months and snow. My kid tried to put in 4wd just to drive to school in the snow and the front wheels wouldn't spin so back to my repair guy I go. He now says that the axle blew a gear and all the fluid is gone and thier is a hole. My choice is an whole new assembly or new housing using some of the old parts. My kid swears he never even put it in 4wd since being repaired and I believe him. Before the first repair his jeep was always muddy but after I made him pay the $1500 his jeep stayed nice and clean.

Also, I am a little worried about my repair shop. He said I needed new wheel bearing and that they are $250 for each side (plus labor). Unless I'm missing something, I can find those for under $100 each all over the internet.

Did you mean to say $3000? My repair shop is quoting $2,500 + labor??

By the way, that $2500 is for a used 5,000 mile Dana 30.

$2400 would almost get you a Dynatrac D44 axle. $2500 for a stock D30 is insane.

The D30 he is talking about includes everything, all shafts, wheel bearings, gears, brakes and rotors. I can't seem to find anything to compare his price to. If I look online I see D44's for around $2500 but they don't look like they include everything to just bolt on and slap the wheels on. Wouldn't those other parts run around $1000 more? I can't even find any D30's new or used.

He says $2800 including labor and shipping. I know he has to make money but if I could get this done for $1500 then I would be pretty upset.

Personally I wouldn't waste the money on a D30 unless money is that tight right now. I was about to do that for my bent 30 and then came to my senses and decided to save for the PR44. The D30 is a hunk of junk.
