Default 16 or 17 Rims & Why

OK
I have a Unlimited Rubicon coming soon.
I want to run the BFG AT tires in 33's
(this will be on the road 99.9% of its life)
and I really like the AEV Bridger wheels
but they only come in 16's, the Pintier comes
in 17's but I just do not like it as much.

What would be wrong with running 16's?

The only person I know said its better to do 16's as
tires will be cheaper.

I am going to do a BB also.

Nothing would be wrong with running 16" rims. They are standard on the X and there won't be any fit problems as long as the backspacing is correct. Yes the tires are cheaper in the 16" size too.

More sidewall as well, and you can air them down more.

X2 ! Cheaper tires, and they work better offroad. More sidewall means more room between the rocks and your wheels when crawling with low pressures.

I would get the wheel you like. I agree with the others on prefering 16's (actually like 15 the best myself) on 33 tires. Those AEVs are some sweet looking wheels.

Guess I really never got an answer on 16 or 17 and why like the original question.

I have a friend who had after market 16's and 35" tires. He wanted to go to 37" tires but the tire selection for the 16" wheel is very limited. He ended up buying 17" wheels. Other then that, I don't know why it would matter between 16's or 17's.

It honestly just a personal preference. I wheel with buddies ranging from 15-18" rims and (me, 17") and we all do just fine. You will get more rubber/sidewall, choices and less hit on your wallet with 15-16" rims. As I've already stated, it's mostly a personnel choice. I run 35x12.50 km2's on 17x9 rims and have no issues airing down to 14 psi and playing on rocks...
