sorry for the newb question, but what exactly is a snatch block and how is it used. I know it works with a winch.

I assume you just use a tree with strap to use the block right?

yeah. There are short straps to go around trees and such or you can use transport grade chain. If you use cheap weakass chain your are asking for trouble. The tree saver straps are the safest.

Never use a chain or winch cable around a tree. It will cut the bark and kill the tree. Only use a nice wide tree saver strap. Also, don't use a recovery strap, since they stretch. Only use a strap meant for this purpose.
