Default Need your tire opinion!

Ok, so I am wanting a 35" tire on 16" rim (cause they are so much cheaper!). I am looking at the Duratrac, MTR/K, Cooper STT, or Toyo M/T's. I though about the KM2's but for the price I want something that is as close to 35" as possible. I like the price of the Duratrac and STT, but they look like more of an A/T versus M/T. The MTR/K and Toyo's look really meaty but I have read about the balancing issues of the MTR and the weight of the Toyo. I would say right now I am leaning towards the Duratrac. What are yall's opinions on these? I will mostly be using them on the rocks and a little mud. And how many miles do they usually last?

Also, I saw the Duratrac only weighs 65lbs. Would this be light enough to use on the stock carrier with extended bumpstops? I will also be getting aftermarket 4.5"BS rims.

Thanks!

All those tires you listed are great performing tires everyone has personal preference of course. Treadlife really comes down to the right tire pressure, balanced properly, and alligned right in the front.

I run Yokohama Geolandar M/T+, good price and actually quite past 5mph. The wear is good, great grip and self clean is good (not a lot of rocks stick in tread). I looked it up they are 315/75R16 / 34.6 tall 224.00 a pop. But I think it all comes down to what company you like and tread that will fit your needs. I got the cheaper ones because I know I will go to 37's and didn't want to kick my self by spending a shit ton on tires. I drive a lot on roads, so it was burn 900$ or 1400$ on road wear. Put the $500 in other parts.

You will need a new tire carrier. You can get it to fit on the stock one but you will bend the hinges on the tailgate over time. There are some tire carriers that you can use on the stock bumper so that why you don't have to spend to much at once. I left my stock spare on till I got a tire carrier, looks funny but between the lift, tire spacers, and tires that stuff adds up.

I have ProComp Xtreme Mud terrains that are 315/70R17 and I love them. They wear evenly and have read several reviews that have testimonials of getting 50,000 miles out of them. I also find that they are a bit quieter than other tires.

mtr's are definitely hard to balance and, i have seen many people on this forum have balancing issues with the duratracs as well. great looking tire and i understand they perform well but, something you should be aware of.

i am a big fan of toyo's and only because they are the roundest tire i have ever run and have near bullet proof sidewalls. yes, they are heavy but, it's a small price to pay for all that they are.

the cooper sst's are real nice tires too.

I love my Toyo M/T - I think it's the best rounded tire for my needs.

They perform phenomenal on the rocks, trails and very quiet on the highway. Probably one of the toughest tires out there.

What do you think about running the duratrac on the stock carrier with extended bumpstops since it is 65lbs?

The stock carrier will not hold them (it will fit but cause damage) mine weigh 61lbs but you have to think the weigh of the rim too. I have read a lot on tire carriers for 35+ tires and everyone has said the same thing. The hinges will bend and the carrier will pull on the tailgate causing the metal to bent and sag from the weight.

Look it up on other post they can point you in the right direction and can show your options. When you do go to 35's make sure you get gussets for the front C's and axle sleeves!!!!

I had a 35x12.50r17 Interco Trxus M/T with steel wheels and never had a problem with my stock carrier - It was on there for over 75k miles with no issues.
