Who has upgraded their Sport to 4.10 gears and kept their stock tires?
This is a serious question and has its merits, so read on before you bash my mall crawling. My 2011 JKU is a work vehicle that has utilitarian purpose that needs to look professional, carry and protect expensive equipment and get me places a 2WD pickup/suv can't get me.
Coming back to a Wrangler from a 4.7HO Grand Cherokee leaves me wanting for power, especially on the highway, climbing a hill or anytime I put the cruise control on. In the last month, I have put just about 4000 miles on it and believe the problem not to be the anemic 3.8, but the Electronic Throttle, Automatic Trans and Gearing. The engine seems to be lugging when cruising. I've monkeyed with the OD off button and played with pedal position trying to anticipate the downshift.
I have a lot of experience with gearing, particularly with motorcycles, and with previous 4WD and hot rod builds in the past.
I think 4.10s are exactly what's needed to put the stock JKU sport on the right track. I see occasional references that the Sport with towing package may have come with 4.10s in the past. I tried a build your own on the Jeep website, but its not an option for the Sport.
I've read the FAQs and found a great chart, so obviously someone else thinks 4.10s. Is there anyone that is running 4.10s with their stock 31 inch tall tires?
How about a heads up Rubicon versus the Sport report? I know the tires are a smidge bigger, but does the stock Rubicon feel doggy under the same cruise conditions?
Here's a hotlink to the chart so you don't need to reference the FAQ when replying.
