Default Widesest 35 on stock Rubi Rims with stock flares and no rubbing

What is the widest 35 I can run with a 2.5inch lift with stock flares and stock rims? I could add spacers if needed.

285/80R17 comes out to 34.95, which I think would be a pretty narrow tire for a 35
295/75R17 comes out to 34.42, Which again may be too narrow
305/75R17 comes out to 35.01, Will that fit in the flares? will it rub?

Also would I be better off going to 16s which would drop the price of the tires, and I could get 16s that have a different back spacing that would keep the tires inside the flares and keep them from rubbing? what would be the right size tire for a 16 inch rim and what backspacing should I look for?

Trying to do a 2.5 Teraflex lift with 35s without adding too much cost of replacing flares etc but also keeping it legal since we cant have any portion of the tire that meets the ground stick out of the flares, and cant rub on full steering lock.

I also don't want to cut up the factory flares, I plan on adding bump stops to keep it from rubbing when stuffing the tire during articulation.

Seemed like it was easier to find the right tire size when I had my TJ on 33s, the perfect tire was a 285/75R16.

Thanks.

Does anyone make any of the sizes you mentioned? The only narrow 35 I could fined was the Goodyear MTR in 285/75/18.

I don't know, I don't even know what is the best solution for a 35, those are just numbers I put together that would be close to a 35

You can get tires in a 35x12.5 or close to 35 in a 315/70

This might help a bit with what's available. There may be others, this is a good start.

go with 16's : lower price and bigger sidewall. 315/75R16 would be the perfect fit
(34.6" x 12.4"). If you are planning to keep your stock wheels, spacers would definetly be needed, at least 1.5".
Some 2.5" lifts would easily clear 35's but 1 more inch of coil spacers or body lift would look great

Depending on your driving habits, Interco makes a 35x10.5x17 SSR, and Pitbull is looking to make a 35x10.5x17 tire soon as well. But those are both relatively aggressive tires.

Lots of people run 35x12.5x17's (same as 315x70x17) on stock rims with wheel spacers and stock flares as well.

Not sure how far (if any) it sticks out with the 12.5's, but for steering, there's always the "washers on the steering stops" mod.

Hopefully someone with this setup will chime in. (I missed that part about not legally being able to run wider than the flares in my first post.)
