Default So what’s the point of Bikini top?

I was dumb and ordered my JK with hard top only. I have been looking for a soft top for a while with no luck. Today I ran across a Bestop bikini top locally and grabbed it.
Truth is I really don’t see the point of it. Won’t really help if it rains. Is it just for shade and looks? I don't mind the full sun from the top off.

The shade gives some temperature relief. Mine is primarily to keep the sun off of my three year old. She loves the Jeep - the sunburn, not so much.

Wait 'til you're stuck in a traffic jam on a sunny day in July and it's 95 degrees and you've got the top off. Then you'll understand.

Yup, just for shade. If you are looking for a "weather tight" soft top, you have quite a few options. 1) find a used take off from someone 2) BESTTOP Trektop 3) After market manufacturer 4) grab a tube of KY and head to the stealership and order one... Q-tec has a boat load of options

I've got the bestop bikini and the soft top door surrounds and the duster cover and yeah its virtually waterproof. But like the guy above said mostly meant for shade.

Yes, it would be different if you had the door surrounds and the bikini/safari top to fold into them like the soft top does. then the rain would channel off the top and outside of the doors. I also have nickel's set-up but find myself mostly keeping the full soft top on and folding back the overhead and rolling up the rear window. If I want more open, the next move is pulling the front doors. Only had the bikini and duster on for about 3 weeks once. But I have a friend that stored his hard top and has pretty much exclusively gone with the bikini with added surrounds and duster till winter. Just depends on what you like.

heres what the package looks like when you have the complete setup. this was bought in 2008 so im not sure if the design has changed any. my set up is 98% water tight. it looks different from your normal soft tops.. i think it looks cooler. I bought mine because like you i only bought a hard top when i got my jeep. when summer came around i was pissy because i wanted the top completely off and the hard top isnt a quick thing to remove. keep in mind.. they dont tell you all the components you need to do this set up. you need the bikini top.. wraparound wind jammer.. duster cover.. windshield channel bar, tailgate bar and side clips, door surrounds and screws. it will end up costing you about 800 bucks. I also recomend getting skid row off roads top and tonno props to help with wind noise and rain run off.. they are well worth it.
