Default Air Lift suspension, anyone?

Has anyone install air bags for towing help with heavy loads? There is a write up on project jk. Thinking about something like this with an on board air kit to fill and maintain them. I wonder how durable the bags are being inside the springs like that? Also, wonder which bags fit my OME HD coils?

I installed them about a month ago. Have since gone through 3 driver side bags, I even made a custom heat shield to protect them and they still popped after a day or 2 each. Not worth it. Im trying to find some towing springs now.

I tow a 2k pound landscape trailer daily and a 4k pound boat on the weekends

Is your jeep sagging that much in the back? I have the factory springs with a leveling kit and with 5 people in the jeep and a 5500lbs boat in tow the back only drops 2"s. No where near rubbing. I've seen 1/2 ton suburbans drop 2"s with the same weight.

I was wondering about the durability of the bags, it doesn't seem like they would last.
While loaded, towing my 2800 lbs camper my rear drops about 2-3", I have HD 618 springs from OME. I'm not worried about rubbing of course, but the more level the better and safer. With the trailer loaded and the back of the jk loaded with gear, it can also get a little bouncy going down the hwy. I'm planning a week long camping vacation, with a lot of road miles, and a lot of gear and supplies.

OME has a more extreme HD spring, 620 I think, but everyone says they are too HD. Never heard any first hand reviews though.

Just thinking

I have them installed on my '09 Dodge Ram 1500 for towing my 30' travel trailer. They really help firm up the rear coil springs in the truck and keep it level while towing the 6800lb trailer along with the weight distribution hitch. If they perform under that kind of weight I'm sure they will work fine on the JK as well.

I have bags on my 4dr. JK and they work great. I tow a Fleetwood E2 tongue weight of 390lbs. Trailer weight is approx.2800lbs. You can call Air Lift and give the the inside diameter and height of you coils and they will find some to work. Been running nine for 6 months w/o any problems.

This is more than likely what I am going to do. Air lift also has a cheap compressor kit that inflates the bags if pressure drops automatically and is controlable from the dash with a button and gauge.

The other option would be to trade my OME HD coils for the Extreme HD 620s. I am not afraid of what the 620s will do to my ride, but I don't want them to change the way my rig sits if it's not loaded, and I don't want then to change the geometery of the suspension, I like the way it rides on and off the road. Some report getting a extra inch or more from the 620 springs.

Heard bad things about the off road performance of these ranchos, not to mention I'm very happy with my OME shocks. The adjustment feature on the rancho only changes the damping effect and does not increase load carrying or sagging. Good for fine tuning road performance but not much else.

Don't want the extra load on the shock mounts either.

Default Any Luck

ConroeJK,

I know this thread is ancient news, but I am now in the same boat. Just bought a 3000lb Camper trailer to tow behind my JK. I have OME 618s in the rear. I was wondering if you ever found airbags that work. If so which ones (part number)? Thanks!
