Default Diff fluid spraying all over rear gas tank skid and axle

Had my oil service done at the dealer yesterday, I know, I had an appoinment for something else and it was convienent. Anyway, I had had a rear pinion seal leak recently and it was replaced and had not notice any issues. Yesterday when I got home, I noticed a burning oil smell and looked underneath. To my surprise, the rear parts of my gas tank skid was saturated with diff fliud, it was literately dripping in multiple spots. Yet the difflooked dry, The seal area had no leaks visually and to the touch dry, so I don't think the rear pinion is leaking, but can't figure out where the oil is coming from. The spray line on the tank skid seems to be exactly 1 inch back towaard the rear of the jeep from lining up perfectly with the rear pinion seal. I wiped it dry and took a small test drive, still some spray , but not as much. Took it out this morning, a little longer drive, still spray, not as much as yesterday, but still coming out.

Any ideas? Had someone suggest that the dealer may have overfilled the diff, but not sure why they would have touched it in the first place, and that this was just the overfill leaking out due to pressure. Any ideas, woudl be greatly appreciated.

Thanks......

I too think it was overfilled. Clean it all off with brake cleaner and watch it. Bet it's good to go.

The breather hose is probably a good bet. My front one did the same thing and it turned out the valve on the end of the hose was bad and a bunch of pressure built up and when it finally opened it sprayed diff fluid everywhere. The dealership replaced it the next time I went in for an oil change.

Look at the breather hoses. If diff fluid is coming out of them, it is very, very easy to see it dripping down the entire length. You should also pop the fill holes from the diffs and check the levels. If they are over-filled, it will start oozing out.

I check the breather hose. It seems okay. The little white cap moves freely on the value. The tube is dry. Nothing running out of the top of it. It just seems to spray off when the drive shaft is spinning. I wipe everything dry after each drive to try to gauge the amount coming out.

Thanks for all the imput.
