Before everyone goes crazy. I know this is not the ideal way. I also know there's plenty of companies who sell a spare tire relocation bracket.

With that said, I see that pretty much all of them stick out at different lengths. I'm assuming that is to work with aftermarket wheels with different backspacing.

What I want to achieve (if possible) is mounting my stock rubi wheels with 315/70 Goodyear Duractracs onto the tailgate and have it touch the bumpers. I don't want the tire just floating on the mount alone.

I was looking at the Bestop oversize tire relocator. But I'm not too keen on the T handle design and it seems to me the tire wouldn't sit tight? I also don't really care for the look of the Hanson or the OrFab units.

Have you tried fitting it yet? I know when I had the 35 MTR on the back with 4.5" of backspacing it fit perfectly. The stock bumper held it snug and it never moved around due to that. If it doesnt fit because its too big I would just lower the pressure until it does. Youll definitely need a wheel spacer to push it out away from the tailgate bumpstops though.

I was able to install with 0 modifications this past weekend (just follow instructions, some stock parts (bolts and screws) will be re-used). It sits flush with the two brackets and can continue to use the stock bumpstops. As far as the T-handle, it cranks snug and I also put on a lock so it helps keep it from loosening. I'll still be checking it from time to time (all bolts) just in case. It also comes with the 3rd brake light adaptor so no buying extra parts...

Mine is an aftermarket tire, though. Saw that statement later...

Sounds like you know the problems with doing this. Keep a close eye on the rear gate welds, mine popped on the upper horizontal edge within a week. Another (certainly not ideal) solution is not to have a spare and keep an air compressor, tire repair kit and charged cell phone with you.

Could you snap a picture of it close up? The bracket that goes on right before the t-hand that goes into the lug nut holes was another concern. I just don't want to scratch up my stock wheels with a tire carrier. If it happens wheeling or hitting a curb that's another thing.

for 35" tires I prefer using 1.5" RC wheel spacer (good for the money, $60) with Daystar Tailgate Bumpstops, it will sit perfectly on stock rear bumper, won't ratle, and the spare tire will not covering the third brake light.
Most spare tire relocation bracket will put the spare tire sitting higher, covering the third brake light.

Thanks. Could you take a close up picture of the tire and bumper and also behind the tire with the bumpstops. Thanks so much!
