Backspacing...I need clearance clarence
I have an 08 jk 4d unlimited. I put a 2.5 terflex lift on which says it will clear 35 tires. I have 18x9 mammoth ultra wheels and am wondering if I will have enough backspace for these Nitto trail grappers at 35/12.50/18?
The backside setting is your backspace, so yours is 5". The offset is the distance measure off the centerline of the wheel. Since you are running a 9" wheel, that is typically measured from from the inside flange of the wheel, so the overall width is usually .5" wider on each side, or 1" making this a 10" width wheel from outer flange to outer flange. This is why a 0 offset shows 5" backspace on a 9" wheel.

Lots of variables involved. Best advice is just the slap them on and see what happens.
Just because someone else does or does not rub with a 5 BS is no indication of whether or not you will with your specific setup. If you rub, do some trimming, yank the skid, go to a stubby, bring in the steer stops, add more height or more bumpstop, trim the flares, etc.
TF recommends a 4.5" because they have apparently done some testing and know it works.

You can spend a bunch of time figuring out little tweaks to prevent rubbing, or you can spend some $$$ on spacers and not have to think about it anymore. Plus, I think the wider stance looks great on a JK

You right I like the wider stance anyway...its gonna be pretty impressive when I finally get it all together.
