Default Nitrogen in my tires

All, I gave the dealer $31 (for the year) to put nitrogen in my tires because one of my buddies told me it increased his gas mileage on the hwy by 4 mpg. Well I did'nt see 4 mpg but I did see 2 mpg plus the ride is SO much smoother its incredible. I highly recommend this mod. just my

Total snake oil. You probably got 2 mpg just for proper inflation.

Agreed. And the ride quality is just a placebo effect.

What do you do after you air down on a trail?

I agree. But yeah, how many places have nitrogen in your area? Makes adding a couple psi a real pain in the butt. Everyone has air.

Furthermore, the air you breathe is 78.09% nitrogen.

Agreed? Now what happens if you air down, refill with compressed air and then head to the dealer again? Will they let you air down all the way to re-fill with nitrogen? Just curious, b/c I didn't know it was a cost that covers the year. I have specifically not done nitrogen in the wife-mobile because 1) costs money 2) if pressure gets low, I have to rely on a dealer to now fill my tires, 3) not convinced it's necessary.

For those of you that have a Costco tire center, they have nitrogen. Also you can buy a diy nitrogen tire inflation kit at harbor freight, these can be filled at any welding supply center

My understanding is that the only advantage Nitrogen would have versus air, is slightly better (less) pressure variation due to temperature changes. I have not tested this myself to verify.

Nitrogen has two advantages. A: less pressure fluctuation with temperature changes. B: the nitrogen molecule is large enough that it does not seep through the rubber. Yes, air is mostly nitrogen, bit some of those other pesky molecules in air are actually small enough to seep through. This is why tire pressure slowly drops over time.

Used it in my motorcycle tires religiously. Put it in my truck, one tire dropped 1 psi over the course of a year. It is totally worthless in a Jeep if you air down and refill on a regular basis, and don't have a regular supply of free/cheap nitrogen.

I don't use it in the jeep, but would recommend it for any full time on-road applications.
