Default Ive hit a big speed bump with my build and need some help!

Just recently I got my first place I'm moving in this coming up week. I'm 21 and its time for me to get out of my dads place. Not to long ago I also purchased my first jeep I had huge plans for it prorock 44 37s 3.5 mid arm tube fenders etc etc. Well the money I had saved up is going towards more important things now like furniture appliances bills etc etc. I have a 2011 sport 2 door not my daily driver as of right now I have a 2006 pontiac with 87000 miles that I drive daily. The prorock 44 is out the window big time right now but here is the thing I already have 37in toyos brand new Detroit locker chromoly shafts and 5.13 gears for the rear 44 the only thing I've got done to the d30 is sleeves c gussets and lca skids I've got $300 into it me and a buddy did the install. I also $1600 credit to northridge 4x4 I thought about building the d30 up and running 35s instead maybe a super 30 kit or something? The tire guys I'm dealing with are awesome and said I could return them or exchange them no problem. I had high hopes for this jeep and still do but more important things come first. Im mainly concerned about the d30 and 37s I would still like to wheel my jeep from time to time but I don't want to be worrying about breaking everytime I go out I no breakage is still possible with 35s but I believe it would last me a lot longer with 35s. Another thing is this jeep may be my daily driver if my car ever let's me down and I have a 100 mile round trip to work. So if some older ladies and gentlemen on this forum could chime in and give some advice and pointers that would be great don't mean to ramble on I just love my jeep and don't wanna sell my parts.

It seems like you already have a good head on your shoulders. Your rig is a luxury. Make sure the important things are taken care of first. Food and shelter are more important than any mod. Your decisions now will affect what you are able to do in the future once you get roots established.

Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. You have a lifetime ahead of you. Heck I was over 40 before I started to have much of any discretionary money to spend.

I think your idea of sticking to 35's on your D30 might be good.. But not sure what gears or tranny you have, or what kind of wheeling you do.

Some of the big boys (experienced) folks will jump in with good advice.

Consider though, it does not hurt for parts to sit for awhile until you have the money to build it properly for 37's as a system. I have collected components for sometimes several months before embarking on a project.

Your young, lots of future play time!

Oh yea, about that D30. I remember reading a thread here about how everyone is terrified that their 30 can't handle any abuse, but no one had any examples of the housing actually failing. Use that credit at Northridge to get some good chromoly axles and you should be good to go. Just don't go crazy while wheeling.

True. You have your priorities in order. I'd be sitting on a milk crate and put my money in the jk.
Honestly though I'd keep saving up for the 44 and wheel the 30 in the meanwhile. Seems like it's good to go for now.

Have your buddy install the shafts/locker/gears in the rear 44, leave the front 30 open with stock shafts, and swap for the 35's. (didn't catch if the front is already geared, or just has the welding done?)

It will be very, very capable with a rear detroit, even with an open front, so go out and have fun with it. In a year or 3 when the 35's wear out, you can move up to the PR and slap on the 37's.

Was thinking maybe he did not have the 5.13s for the D30 because he was initially planning on a PR44.

Vincent, what is your gearing now?

I would not wheel very hard with 37's and 5:13's in a D30. But thats just my opinion.

Both the front 30 and the front rubi 44 are breaking at the passenger side CA mounts. Not a large number, by any means, but enough that housing strength should be a consideration in your builds.

(again, note that they are all breaking in the same spot. For the one guy that had sleeves installed, the break moved to the end of the sleeve right at the center diff).

And after you wrap your head around this issue, you can start looking at the bent C's and bent tubes people are reporting. And if you still have time for more reading, you could start researching broken internals...

Thanks for the input guys I would love to have a pr44 but its not going to happen right now I don't do any rock krawling I could install the 37s on the d30 but it would be awhile before I could get a pr44 under it or I could do 35s locker and shafts and have a well built rig in the mean time. Those housings breaking like that really worries me though.
