Default Newbie wheel width question

I have had the itch for new wheels for awhile. I like the wider stance that comes with losing the stock wheels since the backspacing is different. I currently still have my stock 2010 Mountain set up, gray moabs on the 32" rubi tires. I don't want to run wheel spacers.

What I want to know is, what wheels can I go with that will fit my current 32" tires and allow me to fit 35" tires on when these tires wear out? I am looking at the AEV Savegre wheels and ProComp 7069.

Any ideas welcome, thanks in advance.

don't quote me, but the stock Moab style wheel is, i believe, a 17x7.5. If you like the look of that wheel, you can keep it and run a quality spacer and then go 35s on those wheels. If you want to go after market, look for a 17, that comes in any width from 8 to 10 inches. Depending on your plans for using your jeep, that will determine the width you should go with. A narrower wheel will work more ideally with aired down rubber on the rocks. The wider wheel (10") will work with your current tire, but the overall height of your tire may decrease from being mounted on a wider rim. Honestly, If i were in your position, I would work on other mods first. The tires and wheels on your rig as of now are more than adequate for what most jeepers do. If my wife had let me get the sport, i would still be running the moab wheels.....

Also, go with 4.5" backspacing.

I think a 9 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inches of backspacing is just about perfect for the JK's. That's what I have.

I am definitely going to go with the 4.5" of back spacing. I like the look of tires outside the fender. I also would figure the Jeep would handle a little better.

It sounds like the wheel width really doesn't matter all that much as far as fitting the tire on it. I guess I really just need to find the right wheel. Should be an easy and inexpensive mod. (if I can resell the gray moabs).

I believe that you can only go up to a 8" wide wheel with the stock BFG's. Maybe just get a 17*8 wheel and it'll work for your stock tires until you wear them out and then get your 35's , they'll mount on there too.

I went big with 10" wide wheels and they stick out of the flare just right for me (with the 1.5" wheel spacers. You won't find many people recommending the 10" wheels because you can't air down as low unless you run a 14.5" tire.

Bottom line- get the right wheels for your application. I went small and wide rims for the availabilty and selection of tires in the sizes I would run.
Ok , good to know , I always just like to take it safe.
