X2 - except that he already has sleeves/gussets/gears, so he's more likely to keep dumping money into his 30 than upgrade.

Personally, I would run it open with stock shafts, or keep your lunchbox with stock shafts, rather than dump another two grand into it. (your link is the non-JK version, I think the jk super 30 is closer to $1900?)

The weak point will be the 30 ring gear and pinion after strengthening axle shafts and everything else.

I have the super 30 kit in my dana 30,but I bought the whole housing used with gears and this kit installed and paid far less than that. I have this axle for sale in the axles and gear forum if anyone is interested.

True, depends on how you drive and know the limitations of your rig. But with an ARB locker in front, you may just want to test that limitation from time to time. I just upgraded to 5.13 gears and chromoly shafts in my 30 but chose not to lock to avoid stress on the R&P AND temptation to "make it" because I'm locked.

If you were only going to run a 35" tire. Wouldn't the super 30 kit along with sleeves and gussets and a 4.88 gear (not 5.13) be waaaay more economical then a full blown pro rock 44, and still be strong enough to do some serious wheeling with the front locked?

Im running a built 30 w 37s locked and no prob yet. But I bought the arb and shafts w an extra housing for 500 from a forum member and did all the work myself so with 30 spline arb cm shafts 5.13s sleeves and gusset I have under $1000 in my 30 I figured go this route till it grenades for half of a pr 44 housing cost. Then ill prob put a king pin 60 in its place. Point is if your trying to save money look for deals online a 30 is not worth 2 grand in new parts but half that I thought was imo.

Depends, add up all the costs and compare to see which is the better way to go for you personally. If you can do the work yourself, like Gatewood did, this makes a lot more sense than if you pay all of the labor.

Super 30 - $1900 ?
Gears $500-$2000 ? (depending on location, and if you are only gearing one end to match?)
Sleeves/Gussets/Skids $500-$1000 ? (depending on labor rates and how far you go)
And you still have a weaker housing and the d30 r&p.

$4500ish for the base PR44 ?
