Default 35 inch tires vs. Traction control

So the new 35 inch tires I installed on my Jeep seem to disagree with the Traction Control system. When entering or exiting a highway on ramp, or even a tight bend (usually to the right) seems to engage the Traction Control, applying braking.

Is this a common problem? If so, what is the fix? I mentioned it to the two guys who helped me do the install,a nd they run 35's and 37's, but neither had a problem.

Thanks,

John

x2....your steering wheel has to be straight. It may take 10 times, but get it right.

Probably not. The entire axle moved left about an inch or inch and a half. I'll get it aligned with a new Track bar next week.

As a newbie to Jeeps, can you explain how the system works such that it matters how the steering wheel lines up? My alignment guy was able to get my '66 Vette steering wheel straight in a matter of minutes, so won't be a problem.

You can straighten your steering wheel yourself in five minutes. Loosen the two bolts that secure the drag link turnbuckle and then turn it to straighten steering wheel (make sure wheels are pointed to drive straight). Tighten draglink, test drive and repeat until it is perfectly straight. Otherwise, the Jeep's computer senses that you are turning (you're not, but it thinks you are) and tries to compensate for the skid you're not in--reduces throttle and applies brakes. I'm on my phone, so will let you find the writeup in the Project-JK link at the top of each page on how to do a basic JK alignment (include straighten steering wheel).

I have been experiencing the same thing only on the tight, slanted 270 degree freeway onramps. I adjusted my steering wheel straight but still am experiencing the ESP freakin out...

Any input is appreciated

Here is the write-up Mark mentioned.

Simple 5 minutes fix, assuming you actually get it straight. If something is bent, you can have the steering wheel offset while the computer thinks it is straight!! (so setting it straight will tell the computer you are turning...). Just play with it until you get it right.

Another option is doing the funky steering wheel dance to just shut the system off. Getting that right can be even more frustrating than getting the steering wheel straight, though.

Two issues here. Well basically one, you have pissed off the CAN-gods. Basically your steering is out of alignment as others have said. Also, check your brake lines. (most of the time its the rear brakes) to make sure they are not tight or even straight.
How this works, your steering position sensor says the wheels are turned and the brake lines are saying they are applied, (increased pressure from being straight or tight from the lift.) and the wheel speed sensor says your wheels are moving... this makes the EBCMU (Electronic Brake Control Module Unit) think that you are in an uncontrolled slide. SOOO the ECM tells the EBCMU to apply the breaks and you say SH&T NOT AGAIN!!!

the fix.... Loosen the rear brake line bracket if attached to the frame or use extensions. Straighten the wheels up even fairly close to straight as stated above and the CAN-gods will forgive you.

Hope this helps ya.

My installer told me this issue was normal when installing a lift and 35" tires and was fixed by having a 4 wheel alignment. my installer is VERY reputable. They put a 3" lift and 35's and I love the look. I just want to stop the braking issue and then I will be 100% satisfied. This is my first Jeep so everything seems new to me. This forum has been a HUGE help...
