Default Bestop trektop nx not working with tuffy security deck.

Well crap the rear tailgate retainer that appears to hold the back window down will not clip on with the tuffy deck in place.
It looks like I would have to notch the heck out of this rail for it to work.

Please tell me someone else has run into this and im am just missing the right search string to find this.

I really do want to keep this soft top it fit all of my needs but I will not give up my trunk its the only safe-ish place in my jeep.
Thank you for any help or suggestions ahead of time.

Default Trek Top NX

I just put mine on today & ran into the same problem. I picked up an OEM tailgate retainer for the JK soft top & used it instead & had no problems. I'm not sure why Bestop put those rivits in their tailgate bar instead of coping OEM tailgate bar?

Good to know.
Yet another reason to get an OEM tailgate bar.
I'll be placing my order this week for a tailgate bar.
From what the two of you are saying, it looks like I need the tailgate bar and OEM retainers, is that correct?

Thanks

Have you tried your Tuffy Security Deck with a Trektop NX and the Bestop retainer bar and retainers?

Thanks ac1brooks,
Since this is my first soft top when you say the "OEM tailgate retainer" is that all that you needed for the NX to properly seal?

I was going to hate to hack on this rear bar.

Yes. You need the tailgate bar and right & left clips. I used my factory bar & clips with a regular Trektop with a security deck & it works great. I hate the all on one tailgate bar design, makes the cargo area much less accessible and it's a PITA to put in & take off.

Default fixed it.

Alright, I have no patients so clamped down the bestop rear track measured off then cut a 1/2" of it. Little bit of black paint and now im good to go and installed.
Those instructions sucked for a first timer.

I may not have done the best job and there may be better ways.

I laid the rear bar out with the gasket removed. Measured a 1/4 of an inch with a straight edge and then got the cut off wheel out. I did have to go back and take just a little bit more off but I thought this may have been due to my install of the tuffy and it sticking out or up to much. Your mileage may very but I like to cut as little as possible. Even if it means I have to make 2, 3, 4, 5 very small cuts.

Alright, here are some attempts of pictures taken with my phone.

Notice the edge between the tuffy deck and the body, in my version the gasket reached cleanly from one side of the body to the other so there are no gaps.

Here is the finished version after a little bit of paint, stick the gasket back onto the rail:

I may have cut a little more than I wanted to, I did go back and try to take a little less than another 1/4 of an inch off. Here you can see the light between the bar and the tuffy deck:

I hope it helps, and if this is installed backwards let me know lol
