Bought my Jeep with 33" Firestone tires and aftermarket rims already on it. The spare matches and as I've driving down the road it sounds as though it's trying to pull my tailgate door clean off! Big time rattling and squeaking going on back there. I'm saving for a real rear bumper and tire carrier, but in the mean time I saw this in the Quadratec catalog. Wondering if anyone had experience with it and if it worked.

Of course, any other ideas for fixes are welcome. I've already tightened every bolt and latch that I can - even tried the electrical tape on the latch, but it's still way too noisy.

Havr you weighed the spare? Rubicon rim with 32 weighs in at 71 lb.

 

OK - I'll give the duct tape a try and make it a little thicker - hopefully the gate will still latch.


I can't imagine my spare weighing that much more than the standard Rubi spare. Haven't thought to weigh it, but I may just to get an idea.
