Default spare tire question with 35 tires

I will be getting new twheels are tires soon and need to know what needs to be done to make sure i can mount the full size spare without destroying the gate. i am getting 18x9 rockstars which have 5in backspacing with 35x12.5x18 nitto trail grapplers which state that they are 35.04" tall and 13.39" wide. can i get away with this on the stock carrier? will i need http://www.quadratec.com/products/22202_1001.htm or http://www.quadratec.com/products/16053_520.htm or both? thanks!

youll be ok for a little while with a 35 on the spare tire carrier. eventually you will have to get a tire carrier that does not put stress on the tailgate. most people opt to go with a rear bumper and tire carrier.

I run a 35" grappler on my stock carrier. Using a rc adapter though. No problems or rattles yet. Will eventually get a different carrier

I have a 35" tire with 17" wheel on the stock carrier and it seems solid.

Because of all the stuff i've heard about stuff happening over time, I was thinking about getting the bestop carrier that attaches to the tail gate. Anyone else tried this?

It's a much cheaper option than getting a new bumper and carrier, but I did notice that it doesn't use lugs and you can't have the center cap on the spare wheel.

I went through the same situation a few weeks ago. I ordered both the products that you mentioned, queried the forums, and ultimately decided that the risks were too great. And...my 35s were BFG km2s, which are 15 lbs lighter than your Nittos. Basically, your wheel and tire combo weigh over 110 lbs versus about 65 lbs for the stock setup. I went with the AEV spare tire carrier mounted through my stock bumper - about $1,000 installed or $700 if you do-it-yourself. I'm afraid that with the stock (even reinforced) mount, it will just be a matter of time.

So it should fit on there as is? it seems like with the extra tire width and 5in backspacing the tire wouldn't even fit on the spare tire bracket.

Keep in mind, "fit" is not your problem - weight is. And...Nittos are among the heaviest tires out there.

it depends- if your driving is mostly smooth street, you should be fine for awhile. If you wheel and have lots of bouncing, dropping off ledges (hitting the spare on drop off) you want it off the gate.
Also depends on how far from the gate it sticks out - further out, the more stress on the gate. bumper carrier = peace of mind

I will be driving on street for most of the time and any intense wheeling ill take it off. For now if it fits I'm happy and I'm sure it will last a good amount of time before i get a new carrier or bumper. Anyone know if this wheel/tire combo will fit?
