Default Advise needed - need more armor?

Yesterday I slid into some rocks in a limestone creek bed and did some damage around base of the driver-side door sill. I'm still a novice and learned some very valuable lessons, but also have some practical questions in regards to prep.

First, is this an area of a jeep that will continually take some abuse?

Is there anything I can install that would provide protection that could prevent this? Or is it just part of the game...

Thanks in advance for your help. While this is a small deal, yes it's a jeep, and yes it's gonna get beat on - I'd like to do everything I can to protect it so it will lad as long as possible.

That damage seems unusual. Where the sliders on at the time of the damage?? It seems like a significant lateral slip would be necessary to get around the sliders. A better description of what happened might help with feedback.

For now i would carefully hammer it out and bedline all of the door sills to cover the damage and prevent rust.

Clinometer (on iphone so don't know how accurate) said after slip I was 32.5*. I was extremely thankful I didn't flip...rocks probably kept me from it.

The sliders were on, and took a lot of the damage. I was straddling a ditch (for lack of better words) in middle of creek bed - right side on the creek wall solid-rock, left on other solid rocks and root-system. (learned good lesson about roots..). Essentially part of the wall on right side broke off with weight of my back tire, causing a major lateral shift. The pictures may do better justice than my explanation. first is prior to slip, rest are post. You can see the rock in between back tiers that broke off from wall in last one)

Do I need to replace the sill?

These things are the shit. But they may not mount flush to the side anymore with the dent you got.
